Uncertainty Cracks Dealer Optimism

Fewer rural equipment dealers are anticipating growth in 2022, a direct reflection of today’s volatile environment where labor, product supply and consumer demand are difficult to predict.

According to the results of Rural Lifestyle Dealer’s annual dealer survey, just one-third of dealers anticipate sales growth of at least 2% this year. That breaks a string of 5 straight years where at least half of dealers anticipated growth heading into the new year.

Ag Credit Conditions Remain Stable … For Now

Higher interest rates and closer scrutiny by ag lenders could create hurdles for equipment dealers and their customers in 2018.
In its Feb. 4 Ag Finance Databook and Feb. 15 Ag Credit Survey report, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City characterized current credit conditions as “stabilized modestly but continuing to show signs of weakness … despite signs of stabilizing in the fourth quarter, bankers’ expectations were for loan demand to strengthen and loan repayment rates to weaken slightly in the first quarter of 2018.”
