Excelling in customer service is something David Bentley knows how to do.

Bentley, who owns Bentley Brothers Kubota Dealership in Albion and Brockport, has just received Kubota’s Kaizen Award for outstanding performance. Only 25 percent of Kubota dealers across the United States earn this elite honor, said Jeremy Cook, Kubota’s regional sales manager for Upstate New York.

Cook visited the Albion dealership May 26 to present the award to David and his daughter Laura, who works at the dealership as office manager.

The award program was instituted by Kubota in 2010 to recognize dealers who meet certain criteria, such as facility, sales, market share and achieving goals, Cook said. Only four dealers in the Upstate area qualified for the award.

Bentley Brothers was started as a Cletrac dealer by David’s grandfather in Barre Center in 1925. It later became an Oliver dealer.

David joined the business and moved it to Route 31 in Albion 20 years ago. In March 2010, he opened a second dealership on Route 31 in Brockport.

“How you treat your customers is important, but product has a lot to do with it, too,” David said.

Bentley’s sells Kubota tractors up to 135 horsepower and utility vehicles.

He said he had to thank his customers for his success. “Without them, this wouldn’t be possible,” Bentley said.
