For the 2026 Dealership of the Year (DOY), the judges selected Mount Joy, Pa.-based Messick’s Equipment. The New Holland and Kubota dealership was selected among a field of over 50 North American dealers nominated by dealers, employees, customers, DOY alumni and equipment suppliers. More importantly, Messick’s joins an exclusive list of 40 previous recipients — the Dealership of the Year Alumni Group.
The judges also selected Texas John Deere dealership group King Ranch Ag & Turf as a Best-in-Class dealership.
By the Numbers
Combined, Messick’s and King Ranch accounted for $417 million in total revenue, with combined revenue per employee coming in at nearly $1.5 million. Together, they also produced an average parts and service absorption rate of 88% for the year.
The average return on assets for these 2 dealers was 7.25%. For comparison sake, the North American Equipment Dealers Assn’s 2025 Cost of Doing Business Study shows an average absorption rate of 66.64% and an ROA of 6.29%
Dealership of the Year: A 22-Year Tradition
Farm Equipment’s Dealership of the Year program began in 2005 “to elevate farm equipment dealerships that are leading in best practices, operations management and customer care.”
Since then, 41 dealerships from the U.S. and Canada have been recognized.
They are joined by 58 dealers who have been identified as Best-in-Class Dealerships.
Together, these dealerships make up Farm Equipment’s Dealership of the Year Alumni Group and are instrumental in nominating their fellow dealers for recognition. To see the full list and coverage of the Dealership of the Year Alumni Group, visit Farm-Equipment.com/dealership-of-the-year-archive.
This year’s judging panel included Mark Foster, retired dealer executive and Arthur Ward, former dealer executive and now chief integration officer at Aberhart Group.
In 2025, Messick’s grew its revenue by 20% over 2024 for a total of $227 million. The dealership produced a ROA of 12.5%, the second highest of all nominees and had an average revenue per employee of over $648,000.
“Messick’s that has been in business since 1952 representing New Holland and Kubota as their major lines as well as several shortlines. In fact one of their comments was that they like shortlines. They also have had some acquisitions recently and factors into their sales growth. They do very well with ROA at 12.5% and have an excellent absorption rate of 107%,” the judges commented.
Best-in-Class Dealership
As the Best-in-Class Dealership, King Ranch Ag & Turf has 13 locations throughout Texas.
The dealership reported revenues of $190 million and an ROA of 2.0%, 72% market share for large ag and its parts and service absorption rate was 69%.
The judges say, “They do very well in large ag and have very respectable market share in several other categories. With the acquisitions they have made recently as well as the investment in buildings they are sending very positive signals to their customer base.”
Dealership of the Year Alumni Group
On average and based on data at the time of the award, this group represents revenues of $136.9 million, ROA of 15.4%, market share of 47% and parts & service absorption of 86.82%. Revenues reported by all recipients total more than $8.2 billion.
