Started as a safety and industrial supply company in 1998, today Mobile Ag & Industrial Supply is a shortline only dealership in Bakersfield, Calif., carrying McCormick, Versatile and JCB, along with a number of other specialty equipment brands. While owners Kari and David Mitchell had the opportunity to open a location that carried one of the major OEMs, after looking at the company’s requirements, they decided it wasn’t for them.
“If there's something out there and we can establish another line of, whatever it may be, we've always been flexible like that. We feel like that's the fun part of being a Mom and Pop shop. Some people are offended by that, but I think that's what we are, and we love it that way,” says Kari Mitchell on the dealership’s ability to be flexible and add lines as customers require it.
Today, the dealership carries 21 different shortlines and has earned a solid reputation for its service. The dealership is truly a family business now, with the Mitchell’s children — and their spouses — all playing a role in Mobile Ag’s success.
