As of Sunday, Sept. 30, 86% of corn acres are rated as mature, up from 72% the prior week, 66% a year ago and the 5 year average of 71%. So far, 26% of the corn crop has been harvested, which is well ahead of the prior week and year (both at 16%) and the 5 year average of 17%.
Very little has changed in the past week in terms of the overall condition of the corn and soybean crops with about 9% of the corn crop and 6% of soybeans harvested as of September 16.
U.S. corn and soybean crops are maintaining their faster-than-typical maturity rates while the condition of corn acres declined somewhat and soybeans held their own, according to USDA’s Sept. 2 Crop Conditions report.
With 10% of U.S. corn acres reported to be “mature,” USDA noted no change in the overall condition of the corn crop from the previous week. At the same time, the ag agency is reporting the condition of soybeans improved slightly.
