According to the latest USDA Crop Progress report, around 44% of corn was reported dented in the week ended August 23, surpassing the 24% reported dented this time last year. This also exceeded the 5 year average of 39%. North Carolina reported the most corn doughing at 85%. The report showed 5% of corn mature, in line with the 5 year average and surpassing the 2% reported mature this time last year. Texas led with 60% of its corn mature, followed by North Carolina at 58%.

Corn crops in "good" condition declined to 49% from 52% in the previous week; those in "excellent" condition also declined to 15% from 17% last week.

Nearly all soybeans (92%) were reported setting pods in the week ended August 23, above the 76% setting pods this time last year and the 5 year average of 87%. Louisiana is the first state to report all of its soybeans setting pods. The report showed 4% of soybeans dropping leaves, double the 2% dropping leaves in the same week last year and in line with the 5 year average. Louisiana led with 35% of its soybeans dropping leaves. 

Reported soybean crop conditions declined slightly. Those in "good" condition dropped to 55% from 56% in the previous week, while those in "excellent" condition fell to 14% from 16%.
