Nearly one-quarter of U.S. corn acres had been harvested as of Oct. 2. This is the same percentage harvested as of this date in 2015. This is up 9% from last week’s 15% of corn in the bin and slightly behind the 5-year average of 27%.
USDA reports that the corn harvest is underway with 74% of the crop still in “good” (54%) or “excellent” (20%) condition. The ag agency is reporting that 5% of corn acres have been harvested as of Sept. 11. This compares with 4% on this date a year ago and the 5-year average of 7%.
USDA reported that 87% of the 2012 corn crop was in the ground. This puts planting progress far ahead of last year's pace (56%) as well as that of the five year average (66%).
