USDA reports that the corn harvest is underway with 74% of the crop still in “good” (54%) or “excellent” (20%) condition. The ag agency is reporting that 5% of corn acres have been harvested as of Sept. 11. This compares with 4% on this date a year ago and the 5-year average of 7%.

At this point, 87% of the corn crop is “dented” vs. 84% a year ago and the 5-year average of 82%. According to the latest reports, 33% of corn acres are “mature” compared with 31% a year earlier and the 5-year average of 32%.

As of this past Sunday, 26% of soybeans are dropping leaves, somewhat behind last year when 30% were dropping leaves on the same date. This year’s soybean progress is slightly ahead of the 5-year average of 25%.

USDA is also reporting that 73% of soybeans of in “good” (55%) or “excellent” (18%) condition as of Sept. 11 vs. 61% last year that were in “good” (46%) or “excellent” condition (15%).
