Company’s Production Footprint Now Exceeds 170,000 Square Feet

Salford Farm Machinery Limited has completed a 54,000 square foot expansion at its Ontario facility that increases the company’s total manufacturing footprint to more than 170,000 square feet.

“We broke ground on this project in July 2011,” says Geof Gray, general manager at Salford. “Now that construction is complete, we are in the process of bringing the expanded facility on-line for the benefit of our farmer and dealer customers.”

According to Gray, the newly expanded facility will deliver a number of benefits for the company’s customers. “This expansion is about more than just increasing our production capacity. We have also enhanced our product development and testing capabilities, for example, which are also key contributors to our ongoing ability to deliver the innovative and durable products that farmers have come to expect from the Salford brand.” Gray points to product prototyping and stress and fatigue testing of tillage and seeding equipment as some of the other specific areas of activity that will benefit from the expansion.

The expansion also brings improvements to the production process itself. “With the increased space and capacity, we’ve been able to re-design and streamline production,” says Gray. “We’ve improved the flow in the plant and the additional space allows us to better handle bigger equipment, such as the 60 foot Residue Tillage Specialist (RTS) vertical tillage tool and our new 70 foot precision air drill.”

Also not to be overlooked is the improved shipping capacity associated with the plant expansion. “The increased loading yard capacity and warehousing space secures this facility as the hub of our parts and equipment distribution services,” according to manufacturing manager, George Peters, noting that improvements in these areas will support Salford’s growing distribution and dealer network.

“With a dealer network that includes almost 300 individual stores in North America and farmer customers on almost every continent, investments in our facilities like the one here in Salford are a critical part of our ongoing commitment to develop and deliver industry-leading technologies that not only meet but also anticipate customer needs,” says Gray.
