U.S. farmers more nearly tripled corn acres planted last week vs. the week prior, but remain well behind the pace they set last year.

According to USDA’s April 24 Crop Progress report, 17% of corn was in the ground as of this past Sunday (4/23). This compares to 28% last year on this date, but ahead of the 6% of acres planted a week ago. Currently, corn acres planted is only 1% behind the 5 year average planted of 18%.

Overall, 4% of corn has already emerged. This compares to 4% emerged last year on this date and the 5 year average of 4%.

For soybeans, 4% of acres have been planted compared to 0% last week, 4% a year ago and the 5  year average of 4%.
