December 27, 2011 — After a 63-year stretch as Cascade Farm Machinery, the Silverton, Ore., company will change hands at the beginning of the new year. Linn Benton Tractor Co. has purchased the Silverton business, which the Seifer family has owned since 1949.

A.J. Seifer started Cascade Farm Machinery in 1949 and handed the business down to his sons, Jack and Roger, in the ‘70s. Today, the company is one of the oldest Kubota farm machinery dealers in Oregon.

Linn Benton Tractor Co. will take over in January, and while the name of the business will change, the company still will sell agricultural machinery and parts. The Silverton site will be the second store for Linn Benton Tractor Co., which is based in Tangent.

"Silverton is a good fit for us," said owner Don Kropf. "We have quite a few customers in that market, it's just a matter of getting set up to service them."

Kropf and his wife, Vivian, have owned Linn Benton Tractor Co. for 21 years.

The Kropfs intend to continue employing the 10 or so Cascade Farm Machinery employees.
