Hyderabad, April 27 (PTI) — John Deere India, a subsidiary of U.S.-based Deere & Co., has introduced a 'smart' tractor for the India market here.

The model model 5060E is powered by a fuel-efficient, three-cylinder John Deere diesel engine- 3029T and is equipped with power steering and Tilt facility, said a senior company official. With features like self-equalising oil-immersed disc brakes, side-shift gears, a mobile-charging point, electrical quick raise and lower hydraulic system (EQRL), it is easy to maneuver the tractor, the official said.

"The tractor is also equipped with modern electronics and provides information on critical parameters to the operator through its 5-in-1 multi-function LCD display and an array of gauges and indicators on its dash board," Narinder Ghuman, vice president, sales and marketing, told media persons here today. "John Deere is bringing advanced technology to farmers in India, helping them to be more productive and cost effective. This new 60-HP tractor model 5060E offers state-of- the-art features that help customers be more productive and cost effective," Ghuman said.

John Deere tractors has a market share of 7% in overall India and 16% in southern part of the country. The market is growing rapidly and as compared to last year the product sales has clocked a growth of 20%.

"We are gradually increasing our sales, Ghuman said adding that Andhra Pradesh is a growing market." Recently, John Deere set up a plant at Vadodara in Gujarat to manufacture micro-irrigation systems. These systems are already introduced in states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
