Howard Harrington Named Eastern Idaho Agriculture Hall of Fame Inductee for 2014

Idaho State Journal

Five of Eastern Idaho’s leaders in the agriculture industry will be inducted into the 42nd Eastern Idaho Agriculture Hall of Fame at an annual recognition dinner slated for March 21 at O’Callahan’s inside the Idaho Falls Shilo Inn Convention Center.

This year’s inductees are Kathy Weaver, of Idaho Falls, Carl Swainston, of Preston, Howard H. Harrington, of Blackfoot, Glade “Rusty” Davis, of Downey, and Bill Sager, of Salmon.

2014 Eastern Idaho Agriculture Hall of Fame Inductees:

• Howard H. Harrington will become part of the Eastern Idaho Agriculture Hall of Fame honoring his more than 50 years working with the agriculture community of Southeastern Idaho. The owner of Rockymountain Machinery Company, a farm machinery dealership in Blackfoot, Harrington’s motto “service above self” is reported to be what made RMC successful. He was also on the committee that established the Potato Expo in Blackfoot.

• Kathy Weaver is being inducted into the Eastern Idaho Agriculture Hall of Fame for outstanding contributions to conservation, community involvement and as a spokesman for agriculture. Weaver is only the second female to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in the organization’s 42-year history. She currently serves as a supervisor on the East Side Soil and Water Conservation District and as a director of the Eastern Idaho Agriculture Hall of Fame.

• Carl Swainston is being inducted into the Eastern Idaho Agriculture Hall of Fame for his long-time service to the Preston Whitney Irrigation Company and the agricultural producers served through the organization. Swainston has served on the PWIC Board for 38 years, 16 years as president. He has served on the city of Preston Planning and Zoning Board, as a board member of the Western Dairy Cooperative Incorporate and for 14 years as a local advisor for Farm Credit Services in Preston.

• Glade “Rusty” Davis, who is now retired, has been named to the Eastern Idaho Agriculture Hall of Fame based on his extensive contributions to agriculture. Among his many accomplishments, Davis has worked with the University of Idaho in implementing the “Total Beef” program starting many innovative agriculture practices such as installing a barn camera system to monitor calving and promoting better cattle management practices. He has served on the board and been a director of the Idaho Cattle Association, has been a member of the Portneuf Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors and a Bannock County Farm Bureau Board member.

• Bill Sager will be among the inductees into the Eastern Idaho Ag Hall of Fame based on his outstanding work with ranching in Lemhi County. For over 30 years, Sager has been one of the driving forces for agricultural improvement within his own county and state. Sager was elected a director of the Lemhi Cattle and Horse Growers Association for several years, culminating in his presidency. He has been active in the Lemhi Livestock and Wool Marketing Association, the local marketing cooperative and on the Farmers Home Administration County Committee.
