Discussions Continue with ICON Ag for New Dealership Facility

By Amy Erickson, Le Mars Dailey Sentinel

May 26, 2010 — The Plymouth County Supervisors want to ensure all the legal i's are dotted and t's are crossed before signing a development agreement with John Deere equipment dealr ICON Ag.

The supervisors decided certain details need clarification before approving a development agreement between the county and ICON Ag.

The John Deere dealership is planning to construct a new facility on a 15-acre site on Key Avenue, inside Le Mars, Iowa, city limits, in 2010-11.

The county's development agreement with ICON Ag is similar to one approved by the Le Mars City Council last week.

The planned ICON Ag facility would be inside a joint urban renewal Tax Increment Financing area shared by the county and city.

The city's development agreement specifies industrial property tax exemption for ICON's new project for a five-year period, with exemptions starting at 75% the first year and gradually diminishing to 15% through the next four years, subject to completion of the project by June 2011.

The supervisors support the city's development agreement with ICON Ag but want to clarify whether the county or the city would be the obligated party in the development project.
