CNH Hiring More Than 50 Workers in Fargo, N.D.

FARGO, N.D. (April 7, 2010) — Case-New Holland is hiring more than 50 workers after cutting 260 jobs at its Fargo plant last year.

The company is making efforts to rehire employees who were let go, said Erik Olson, general plant manager.

Case New Holland manufactures agricultural and construction equipment.

In March 2009, Case New Holland cut 140 jobs due to the weak economy and reduced demand for farm equipment brought on by the global credit crisis.

Three months later, the company cut another 120 jobs from its Fargo plant.

The company also laid off workers at its Grand Island, Neb., and Burlington, Iowa, plants.

“We work off a recall list of employees who have been laid off,” Olson said of the new hiring.

Brian Walters, president of the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corp., said that when sales increase, production increases, leading to increased employment.

“Farm equipment manufacturing has been stable and is improving,” Walters said. “Construction equipment is beginning to rebound and improve as well.”
