Bobcat Plans Bismarck, Gwinner Layoffs

FARGO, N.D. — A union representative says Bobcat Co. is planning more layoffs.

Tom Ricker says 114 hourly workers will be laid off at the Gwinner plant, along with some salaried workers. He says 15 employees at the Bismarck plant also are being laid off.

The West Fargo-based maker of skid-steer loaders and light construction equipment did not plan to release any information until this afternoon. Ricker said the layoffs are being described as "indefinite," with Bobcat hoping to recall workers when orders pick up.

Earlier this year, Bobcat laid off about 250 workers at the two North Dakota plants.

South Korea's Doosan Infracore Co. purchased Bobcat in 2007 from Bermuda-based Ingersoll-Rand in a deal worth $4.9 billion.
