McFarlane Expands Reel Disk Seedbed Preparation Lineup

SAUK CITY, Wis. (April 13, 2010) - McFarlane Manufacturing announced the release of new models RD-4012-RB and RD-4044-RB that expand the product offering of the industry-leading Reel Disk.

The RD-4012-RB will provide producers with smaller acreages and lower horsepower tractors with all of the features and benefits of the larger machines.

McFarlane Reel DiskThe RD-4012-RB features a 12-foot, 3-inch working width and a 12-foot, 10-inch transport width. The recommended tractor horsepower is 100 to 120, and the field capacity is 7 to 11 acres per hour.

The RD-4044-RB has a 43-foot, 6-inch working width, and can cover up to 40 acres per hour. The double-folding frame provides a 17-foot, 4-inch transport width and a transport height of 13 feet, 6 inches.

The Reel Disk from McFarlane Manufacturing is a true vertical tillage tool that can satisfy all of the demands of today's farming practices, especially BT corn and corn-on-corn cropping.

The Reel Disk, featuring ultra-shallow concave disk blades, loosens the top 2 to 3 inches of the soil yet leaves the seedbed firm. This ensures accurate seed depth at planting, resulting in even emergence and better yields.

Smoothing uneven ground and removing small weeds are done quickly at the 7- to 9-mph operating speeds. With the addition of these two new models, the Reel Disk is now available in widths up from 12-43 feet and requires approximately 8-9 hp/ft.

The ultra-shallow leading disk blades on 7-inch centers easily penetrate the soil and slice residue into manageable pieces. The gang angle can be set aggressive for more soil movement to bury residue or can be set passive to leave more residue on the surface.

Reversible scrapers are 2-way adjustable to maintain optimum disk blade performance. Following the disks is a rank of 7-blade, 18" diameter spiral reels that crosscut the residue and mix it into the soil, aiding decomposition. This is the same spiral reel used on our popular Reel Till.

To produce the firm and level seedbed for optimum germination and yields, our proven 3-bar spike harrow follows the spiral reel. The heavy-duty harrow follows the ground contour closely and is flexible to allow residue to flow through. The final touch for the perfect seedbed is our 12" diameter rolling basket. The basket features 8 high-carbon flat bars with adjustable down pressure to make it aggressive for clod sizing and firming or passive for soil separating and conditioning.
